About Fire Safety Products

Home or business fires are certainly among those things that are an unfortunate possibility in any of our lives.

While we all know in the back of our minds we should be be prepared for this sort of thing, few of us actually are. Some of us may feel that if we take steps to keep items like that in there, we may tempt fate. Or, we may think that what we need may be too expensive or take up too much room like specialty ladders, large fire extinguishers, etc.

A Fire Escape Plan

The truth is that the list of items that are needed is fairly short. If a fire is too large, it is only going to be able to be fought and hopefully extinguished quickly by the local fire department. It is always prudent to keep a box -something you can get to and transport quickly and easily of your MOST important papers, like your passport, birth certificate, wills and the like. Get one that is a s fire resistant as possible to increase your chances of keeping these items intact if for some reason you can't get it out. You should of course ALWAYS put the lives and safety of you and your loved ones first. No matter what you could lose in a fire, loss of life will always be most irreplaceable. It of course seems silly, even ridiculously obvious to say, but in the intensity of the moment thinking something like "oh, I can get over to that end of the room or the house, or the building to get that one thing that I think I must have" can a decision that means life or death.

Fire retardantFire Prevention

When being prepared for a fire emergency, it is always the best idea to prevent a fire before it starts. Again, this may seem like a really obvious thing to know, but again, you'd be surprised how few people think of it.

One of the best inventions for prevention has of course been the smoke alarm. This device has saved many many lives, and as it's use widens, and more and more cities and towns require them to be in every dwelling, they will no doubt save many many more.

There are other items that can prevent fires as well in on certain situations- situations you might not have thought of. For instance, how many people have Christmas trees in their home over the holiday season? Even with the best care and watering, the pine needles on a tree will begin to dry out. All it takes is one bulb on a string of lights to go put and explode or, a candle fall over and that tree will ignite extremely fast, faster than it is likely an extinguisher will get it out. Even if it does get it out before larger fire erupts, you will be left with smoke damage, and most likely ruined gifts and furniture. How do you prevent a fire like this? Purchasing a small can of tree flame retardant and spraying it will prevent the tree from being susceptible to catching fire from small causes like this.

Putting Out Fire

Small fire extinguishers are a great idea. There are cans of putting out a small  fire that way  is something you or anyone can do. If you get to it soon enough, the overwhelming smothering of the flames are a fast and effective way of eliminating the danger. The smaller cans are good to have around in addition to a larger one in case you can't get to it or it is too cumbersome or heavy for whoever needs to put the fire out to accommodate easily.
